Who are Celf-Able?

Celf-Able are disabled and artist led, but open to all ages and abilities, artists and people who just want to have a go at art.

We hold group art sessions once a month each in six locations across Montgomeryshire - Newtown, Welshpool, Llanfair Caereinion, Machynlleth and Llanidloes, Llanfyllin. All materials and tea, coffee and biscuits are provided. We charge £5 for non-members and £3 for members.  Annual membership fee £15, annual Zoom attendance fee £15.

We are a diverse group of artists from a wide range of  disabled and non-disabled backgrounds.  Some have been to formal art education, some are self-taught, some have many years' experience of doing art, others are new to art.  Our art interests are many and varied, from painting, performance, sculpting, photography, drawing, printing, to advising on access for artists and many other activities related to raising the visibility of disability through the arts.  We share our skills, learning from each other and learning together.  Much of the time we make it up as we go along!

Current Projects

Birds of a Feather

Local art group Celf-Able are delighted to have received a grant from National Lottery Community Fund Awards for All, which will enable us to have a wide range of artist workshops. These will take place on Saturdays at the Focus Enterprise Hub, third floor, Pryce Jones building, Newtown, from 11-3. We are working to the theme ‘Birds of A Feather’, about how we all share a common humanity, no matter what the differences are between us, and how diversity and difference should be valued and celebrated.  At the end of the project we will hold an exhibition to show all the work produced, and we will also share the work online.

The workshops began in February. We are making a fabric banner as part of the project so we will be wet felting letters and bird decorations for it. Other art techniques we will be trying are screen printing, block printing, weaving, small willow owl sculptures, PowerTex resin, felt bird vessels, cyanotype on fabric, fabric spray stencils, and other techniques. We will also be working on a monthly bird-themed challenge set by various members.

The workshops are free and open to all, but places are limited so booking is required please, email admin@celf-able.org or telephone 07979 280 711.  Materials and refreshments are provided.
